Future Sense : Career Breaks

Career Breaks

More people than ever are taking a career break and taking time out of their working lives to do something completely different. Career breaks can be a choice that you make, or you can have one forced upon you, the reason isn't really important - its what you do with your time out that counts.

Some career breaks are structured; many large employers offer a paid or unpaid sabbatical as a way of developing key skills in employees and giving them the much needed break from work life. Others may just be spur of the moment things, where you are not sure what you want to do next, so you take some time out to think things over. A career break can be a month, a year or even more.

Some of the most popular options for people who take a career break are to travel combined with volunteering. There are also a small percentage of people who opt to pursue studies that will enhance their career.

FutureSense works with a large number of people who explore options of volunteering and traveling during their career break/sabbaticals. Some are sure of what they would like to do, some have a vague idea and some completely clueless. We work with all of them. Either to design the volunteer placement you have in mind or to help you decide which country, what kind of project, for how long you can volunteer and other details.

At FutureSense, we understand the needs of working professionals who look to travel out either for short or long term. We acknowledge the fact that their reasons for taking a break and their aspirations from the break are much different from students or any other groups of people. Hence, all our programmes are tailor made along with your inputs and suggestions. A snapshot and sample of the variety of programmes:

These programmes not only give you a different way of life in completely new surroundings but help you build essential skills as well. Many of our volunteers have switched careers after their volunteering assignment with us. Some have used it to do something useful in their free time and it has helped them move to the next level in their career.

Testimonials

“ I had the most amazing time during my stay in The Gambia. As a volunteer you are put in a position where you are able to make extremely meaningful relationships. In my time as a volunteer I made many friendships that I believe will be lifelong. There is no doubt that the experience is demanding. This is not so much from the change in your usual living conditions but from the combination of cultural differences, language barriers and challenging teaching conditions. However, the satisfaction that you get from your successes is only intensified from having done so under difficult conditions. ”
